| FlashDevils BLOG In Category: General / Misc. | Rate This Forum! Body Text: 26 augustus 2004 13:09:53 Been away for a while Hey I've been away for a while, on vacation and having some days off. In the meantime I'm also switching ISPs which means I do not have DSL at the moment which is a bummer. I'm also working in my house which needs some work to make it look a lot better. I've experienced myself more with Mach-II and have built a pretty good CMS with it. You can now hang modules in it without a fuzz. I'll use this technique and experience in FlashDevils. Things are moving forward but not as fast as I would like to ;-). When there is something good to show, I'll let you know! Hope all is well, Erwin admin | 2 comments | Add a comment 22 juli 2004 13:27:23 Forums back online! Dear Members, I'm very glad to report you that i've managed to put the forums back online on this new server! While you can visit the forums again, I will continue building the new FlashDevils. The homepage of FlashDevils.com will remain this blog to keep you updated on the results. http://forum.flashdevils.com/ leads you to the forums . The custom avatars don't work yet, but that will come later. When I built the previous FlashDevils my knowledge and experience in programming such a large application was too little. Therefore the building wasn't done right, it was built as an experienced amature. It was built without using any OOP, using a lot of external scripts which I merged together and not to mention the dependency it had on the operating system it was running on. Conclusion is that it looked well on the outside but the way it was built is crap! Because of all this crap FlashDevils couldn't migrate to our new Windows server and I had to take it down and set up this blog. Is that the only reason for rebuilding FlashDevils? No, of course not. The main reason for rebuilding FlashDevils is because we want it to be extremely flexible, good looking, faster, kick-ass and built in Macromedia Coldfusion MX because to create something powerful you got to use something powerful. Where we are going As said, we want it to be extremely flexible. The whole thing will be built with Macromedia Coldfusion MX using the Mach-II framework(OOP). I've been using the Mach-II framework for some time now. At the moment I'm building a CMS and Intranet with the Mach-II framework which are so modulair that it is almost Copy and Paste to add or remove a certain module in an application. Imagine you got a bounch of modules(usersystem, news, products, etc) and you Copy and Paste them together to create a new application for your customer. That is the way FlashDevils will be built. Adding or removing a certain module won't take hours anymore. The layout will give a better user experience to the visitors and the depth of clicking will be reduced to make sure a visitor doesnt have to click too much. The colors won't stay the same as they were before. It will be a combination of this blogs colors and the colors of the forum I built a year ago. The logo won't stay the same either. As some of you have already noticed the logo above this blog is the new logo made by Kris Honeycutt on the forums known as Savant. The hosting will be generously provided by Netkeepers. Design decisions The frontend of it all will be built in XHTML 1.1 without the use of tables for layout but instead we use CSS, this to make it much more compatible with things like PDA's and Cellure phones. Since the market in these devices grows we have to grow with it. This technique also makes it cross-browser compatible for almost all browsers and speeds up the parsing time, which is good. For forum entries we go with a WYSIWYG textarea. Not the one I used in that forum I built a year ago, but a much better one. Work items Each of the following tasks constitutes a milestone: ============================== Step 1 ============================== [module] Usersystem with privileges [global] Main layout [module] Navigation and userprofile [module] Forum [module] Filemanager per user(size limitation) [module] Private messaging [module] Search engine [module] Memberlist ============================== Step 2 ============================== [module] News [module] Tutorials [module] Code bank [module] FLA Files [module] Links engine ============================== Step 3 ============================== [module] Interviews [module] Reviews [module] Featuring sites ============================== Step 4 [anything else after Step 3] ============================== As said, I will try to work on this as many nights as i'll be able to but I can't give you dates of completion. I'm sure you guys understand that . admin | 5 comments | Add a comment -August, 2004 «‹Today›» SunMonTueWedThuFriSat 1234567 891011121314 15161718192021 22232425262728 293031 Please select a date JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOct Talk Forums back online!
