Non-workable real time access to the Administrator John Lester, and moderators that seem power hungry and out of control. But, your milage may vary.

Comments: I have spent several years using this forum, and have found its quality to go steadily downward since it quit its affiliation with Harvard Medical School. I find several of the busies forums to be increasingly dominated by a few individuals who frequent many different forums in a seeming role of expert or guru. Their advice is often off-track and sometimes frankly harmful. The moderators ban anyone who does not worship at the feet of these two people. Frankly, I would suggest people stay clear of this place until it gets its act together. Too many innocent people are being hurt by a poorly run over-sized "one-size-fits-all" forum.

Comments: There used to be many things to like about BrainTalk, and I referred may people. In the past year, the sole owner has fostered an atmosphere of oppression and malice, fostering fear and anxiety among people who depend on these groups for basic emotional support. Some members have told me that mass bannings of those who have been victimized by a bullying clique whose power base he is intent on protecting. He fired all his long-time moderators and replaced them with a team that aggressively protects the bullies. I have had several people report that the way things are now is causing them lots of emotional distress and anxieties. No longer a recommended place.

Comments: I have been a member 3 years and find this better than the old Massachusetts General. Gives lots of good links to websites and members help each other. Moderators very fair in applying rules. I was banned for a mistake and allowed to come back because my medication was changed. Is that fair or what? Shows compassion of forum. Members are very friendly and email each other and even meet. Doesn't have the uptight feeling of hospital forum. We could do without the know-it-alls, but I have found it wonderful.

Comments: Theresa seemed happy to be banned when her meds were out of kilter, but the chat mod at braintalk has been ruthless. She and Giraffe have made it a generally unsafe environment for men and they ban a lot without warning. Women, too. AVOID THE vChat room if you don't want to be banned. Mod5 was apparently axed for being her own self too much, but if you have the right screen name, one of the in-group, you can say the RUDEST things to other people and they will not delete or edit their posts. Not even a warning. BEWARE. This place is too big and under staffed and not well supervised anymore.

Comments: I have emailed the moderators several different times and never received a response from any of them when I had a problem or needed help. I have noticed other people have contacted the moderator and received almost lightning effect reaction. Moderators should not be the sole judge of banning people who have been there for a long period of time. It should go before John Lester because the moderators themselves are patients just like the visitors and may make rash decisions that a normal person would not make.

Comments: This forum has a tendency to factionalize, and there is not enough time or effort taken to reslove problems. The forum is a wonderful resource in the areas where there is no dissension (the parts where everything is moving along as the founder intended); if the situation deteriorates, knee-jerk reactions occur, and people are banned with or without cause. Thousands of people post at Braintalk. Probably the level of bullying is about the same as that in any municipality of several thousand--which would have a police department.

Comments: This was a great forum when I first discovered it several years ago. Sonce then, it has become a sanctuary for cyberbullies, self-proclaimed gurus, experts and know-it-alls who find pleasure in attacking, harassing, and shooting down any unexpecting "normal" who should have the audacity to not agree with whatever theory is being promoted. Moderators decisions and actions are incomprehensible, autocratic and inconsistent. If you enjoy groveling at the feet of whatever prima donna is ruling the individual areas of the forum, then you will be very happy here. The "fog level' of the content has become so high that most laypeople have a hard time following and those of us who can, find it too time-consuming. The members who were compassionate, warm and supportive have left for greener pastures. All in all a sad story of what happens when power-hungry people with empty lives decide to fulfill themselves by taking over a forum.

Comments: I was a member for many years at MGH which was helpful, problems were resolved with decent moderator intervention, people cared about each other and there was a lot of support. Now it's a clique-ridden group of narcissists who have a direct line to the admin, a megalomaniac who revels in power, money and does not oversee board. Always has an excuse that he isn't paid, etc. When this forum got charity non-profit status, thought things would change. NOT!!

Comments: The ease of forum use is a benefit of vbulliten software. There are still a few good people here and there on the forums, but they are overshadowed by the cyberbullies, the crackpots, the trolls, and above all by mrsdoubtfyre a pharmacist who pretends to be a doctor. Any reference to her profession will get your thread removed and you banned. The moderators go to any lengths to protect her. For a couple of days there was a dim hope of sanity, when she was banned for being rude to a mod. The ban was long overdue, but was overridden by Firehorse/Mod4/David Hosobuchi. My advice if you're looking for a health forum is to look elsewhere. If you are already a member...leave. And if you don't take this advice, at least be careful of the abovementioned.

Comments: moderatora favor a select few who are allowed to run everyone else off the forum.... rules change constantly to fit the needs of the moderators. The administrator is never around anymore. And frankly, the few people that are favored by the moderators tend to give the loudest but medically worst advice, then berate people for not taking the advice. The anti-medication agenda of the select few is tiring, and the discrimination againat those with mental health probelms is disgusting. Bannings are up, membership is down, that's what happens when the forums become communist.

MrsDoubtfire thinks she is the goddess and queen, the berates members, gives the worst advice, is a cyber-bully, and yet the moderators consider her a friend, so they protect her at all costs. Comments: Just like everyone else has stated, this forum used to be a great place until cyberbullies were allowed to take over and moderate. Being a member there is sort of like joining a street gang in LA. There is always someone looking to "get you". Mrsdoubtfyre keeps spreadsheets about your meds and those of your children and will berate you to get off of them every chance she gets to climb up high on her soapbox. It doesn't matter if these are lifesaving meds prescribed by your doctor. You will be told that you are sick and need mental help and that you are poisoning your child. Don't say you weren't warned. Don't bother writing to John Lester either. He couldn't care less.

Comments: This forum is dangerous for those seeking support or information on Mental Illness. There is a female pharmacist that convinces people to stop taking there medication with scare tacticts, and is held in high regard by the site's owner and the Mod's. There needs to be a Mod that is educated in Mental Illness (ADHD, Bipolar, depression, etc) to carefully watch the boards, as this woman is a pro at badmouthing and degrading people for medicating themselves and their children. There are wonderful people on the boards, but they have been bullied into submission oftentimes.

Not only are the moderators a gestapo, and has the listowner gone crazy trying to make the world's largest and most useless forum, but there are other serious problems. There are almost no people knowledgeable of any of the conditions either on the forums or moderating the forums. There is a clique of bullies which dominates the entire site and with whom the moderators side. There is no interest in any viewpoint besides the shared party line, which is anti-med, anti-doctor, anti-science, and anti-research. It is a very dangerous place to go for information about these illnesses and conditions, and the owners motives are suspect. This site is so horrible that the owner must be experimenting with the people he uses as guinea pigs.

If you have a masochistic need to be bashed, belittled and picked on, check in here. This is the worst moderated support forum you will ever come across, with a large group of moderator-protected narcissistic grandstanding egomaniacs taking potshots at anyone who doesn't toe their line. Any dissent by an unknowing or frustrated user will bring swift action in the form of a reprimand by a mod, or banning with no explanation offered. Those who are not actively set upon will be thoroughly ignored while toadies of the 'ominpotent' ones stroke their egos...leaving those who seriously need help feeling ignored, intimidated and in worse shape than before they came. Comments: I was banned July 3, early Sunday morning. What had I done? Who had I flamed that week? What sort of emotional trauma was I causing? Well actually, nothing at all. 2 totally invalid charges by MrsDoubtFyre's sockpuppet Belleami and a very sadly disturbed delusional woman. But my hands were clean and I asked them both to send any and all such "proof" to the mods for "UNBIASED JUDGEMENT. Within hours I was banned for "repeated interpersonal disputes with various members"... My real sin? Raising awareness. But that is how these mods are. In recent months, anytime I posted to a thread that disturbed anyone's sense of grandiosity, the entire thread was deleted rather than selective deletions or simply locking it. It used to be TOTALLY UNKNOWN for threads (USEFUL THREADS) to be totally deleted. It is a typical of repressive 3rd-world regimes - ReWriting History. Orwell's 1984. Destroy the evidence. What is does, tho, is leave the bullies with a greater sense of "can't touch me" and disdain for "the mentally disturbed" with parents of ADD/ADHD children and bipolar.

Now that I am banned, I have nothing to lose at all - NOTHING) Recently, even the Survivors of Suicide forum -this FRAGILE NEEDY PEOPLE- were hit by bannings that totally shocked and surprised the victims. But that is standard nowadays for bannings at BrainTalk -- someone puts a bug in a mod's ear -- someone with sufficient high rank and status, and you are GONE. It leaves formerly active forums virtually dead, and emotionally vulnerable people stressed to the max. This forum is dangerous to the self esteem of fragile ill people. BrainTalk is increasingly militantly opposed to any medical treatment of mentally ill children or any on the autistic spectrum. Parents are guilt-mongered. Do you think it possible that Tom Cruise and the Scientologists are sender the owner checks? Think I'm exaggerating? Well, just go back up a few posts and see what MrsDoubtFyre has to say - in her OWN WORDS. She is AGAINST medications developed and marketed by the pharmaceutical industry. It is her agenda. Does YOUR doctor or your child's neurologist want you on a site with her? Think about it.

Comments: Several years ago, this was a top-notch site. In the past four years or so it has steadily gone downhill with "in-crowd" cliques dominating almost all the forums. Irritate a clique member and you are toast. Personal messages that should be taken to e-mail seem to get the most attention, while legitmate questions will usually generate some comments, but nowhere near the volume of the social circles.

Comments: I disagree with a number of the comments above. First, how can you call something gossip when it can easily be verified by simply reading the forum? Second, I have read the forum for years, back to the days when it had an air of respectability because of the association with Mass Gen and Harvard. I disagree with anyone who says it was a good forum then. It was even worse then. I have never seen a time when this was a helpful informative or well-run forum, and it has only gotten worse over time.

Comments: If Braintalk is such a great place, Ella and Peter, why are so many people voicing so many complaints? I would assume this is only a tiny portion of those who have good reason to complain, not everyone who has had bad experiences there will have written HERE. This is much more than a matter of simple gossip. When the admin of BT chooses to encourage small groups of users to take free reign in certain forums, many dispensing radical advice, attacking those in need of support or silencing opposing opinions-- and chooses to continually BAN users who disagree with them, making a complaint about the situation is much more important than mere gossip. These complaints are not fabricated, I recognize several people here from the forum, know their situations at BT, and am aware of the truth of what they have written. Braintalk will never be a good or safe forum until these issues are addressed. I agree with the GREAT majority here and recommend anyone searching for a welcoming, safe forum look elsewhere.

In this email, "Peter" upbraided the forum owner, for having allowed a member to refer to Braintalk in a way that was "Tantamount to GOSSIP". 3. There is a tax attorney named Peter White registered in Michigan. 4. Braintalk was recently declared a tax exempt charity. 6. Peter White is Mrsdoubtfyre's real life husband. 7. In exchange for helping Braintalk get charity status, John Lester has given mrsdoubtfyre carte blanc to hold a reign of terror over his board.

Comments: Not only are the bannings way up, but actual usage is way down. Take a good look at who really is online and using the forums. Bots. They are taking info that you post or put in your profile and making it public. BT is not safe. Stay away. Do not register and give them any information. Read and try and find out information. This forum should be shut down. It is a for profit. They use every post made to study the members and then use those findings to publish studies. Do some google searches. You wll find stuff that will shock you. The muliple name issue, even David H was posting under fake names. He finally fessed up and admitted to one other. But Mrs D/Mod 2, she still hasn't fessed up. She needs to remember that she wasn't very good at hiding it. Shame on you. No wonder you closed your PM's

Good to see that hard-earned donations to this "charity" went to fund moderator vacations... is that allowed under IRS rules for charities? To those whining about gossip, gossip is for churchgoers and small town busybodies. For an online health forum, it is very dangerous to be hush mouthed about serious problems like this. Comments: One man recognized a need in his area and started a party/movement/website to bring order and a better life/health to the people. It started small, and at first he seemed like a savior. Bad people were put in Jail/banned, peace was maintained, and the society/website flourished. As time went on, things started to change. People were arrested/banned, put in prison/banned for 2 weeks or killed/banned for life, without cause and at the whim of a few, i.e. gestapo/moderators. Hence, the people feared the gestapo/moderators, and you could only voice opinions that were in agreement with the regime/website brass. People eventually formed resistance groups/other forums. The original savior/owner had little knowledge of what was going on but condoned it by non-action. Eventually, war broke out (check out the comments in Forum Feedback) and the place was never the same again. Quite an analogy, eh? Not everything fits, but the gestapo analogy really does... (References to nationalities/religion does not play a part in this analogy)

Comments: BrainTalk is a community with a wealth of information ( I learned a lot ), and is easy to use . It is also run like a Junior High school .... if you were not in a clique (with the "cool kids") you would be picked on ! Comments: this is a great forum with a lot of information. it is sometimes like junior high in that so long as you stay away from the riff raff you will do just fine. for the most part, the mods are fine and just doing their jobs.

Comments: This place was a life saver to me when I first came here over 6 years ago. It has gone progressively downhill since Mod 4/David H. took over the operations of Braintalk. That is one power hungry jerk that I hope to never have any encounter with again! The mess created during his reign of terrow was heartbreaking. So many people who needed that support system were let down almost as soon as they joined. That site was a great place at one time. It's sad that I had to move somewhere else in order to feel safe to talk about things without being scrutinized on every word. It's sad...losing something that was so good for it's members, to something that could ultimately cause considerable harm medically. Remember David....we will reap what we sow!

Comments: the old site os back up with the same problems and terrible mods it had before. the mods won't tell you who they are. they are the ones posting to get people upset. posts are being deleted daily. for a wonderful forum google braintalk2. docjohn has a wonderful forum. btw...david horseface even deleted a very nice post on FF by docjohn today. so, those of you who think bt is so wonderful, why aren't you allowed to ask questions without being banned?

Most 1 star ratings by a long margin= for moderators with 76%(just over three quarters being 1 star ratings.This shows beyond any doubt that the major problem with braintalk is bad/incompetent moderators and it's greatest asset is content and ease of use.

Comments: What is it with those gf people? They are like a cult. They come from the gluten file board, and go to all the different braintalk boards trying to attribute every condition known to man as related to eating bread. Maybe its just one person with 4-5 differnt names creating all the id's just to solicit other people to join the anti-wheat bandwagon. I think the vitamin deficiency caused by eschewing grain food caused all their brains to rot. So now braintalk is rotted because of them. I bet they are scientologists too.
